The Value of Investment

1 Thessalonians 5:11 “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing”.

On January 26, 2014 Tri-County Baptist Church had an unique service.  Pastor Brian asked seven congregation members to share about the value and impact of small groups on their lives.  Below you will find three videos from that AM service.

Never underestimate the power of investing in others.

Super Sunday Devotional

Super Sunday Devotional Questions:

  1. If you examined your life over the past week, who would others say that you are a fan of?
  2. What proof in your life would you think they would point to in support of that answer?
  3. What will you accomplish this week to show others that you are a follower of Jesus?

Bill Nye v. Ken Ham

For many people the upcoming debate between Bill Nye “The Science Guy” and AiG’s Ken Ham is a great example of Good vs. Evil.  For Christians “this will show them” attitude is in full force.  They have a hope that after this debate no further explanation will be needed to finally put those evolutionists in their rightful place.  It is my opinion that this is the most unimportant aspect of this debate.

First, what is the purpose?  Good vs. Evil.  Right and Wrong.  Will someone actually come out a winner?  Let us be honest with ourselves.  Creationist, those who support AiG, supporters of Ken Ham will spin the after affects of the debate to show the foolishness of Bill Nye.  Likewise evolutionist and supporters of Bill Nye will do the same.  So what is the purpose?  Let me suggest this.

Ephesians 5:7-8 “Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”

The purpose for this is to share the light.  What a great opportunity this is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with Bill Nye.  I am under the assumption that Bill Nye is unsaved.  He is in the darkness.  But if we as Christians attack evolutionist and fail to bring the gospel…then we fail.  We have failed to walk as children of light.  The purpose is to share Jesus with a lost and dying world.  I would challenge you that this debate is a beautiful opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus with Bill Nye.

Second, have you been praying for this debate?  “Dear Lord, please help Ken Ham show that “guy” how correct we are!” (In a Charlie Sheen voice) Winning!  No.  Let us look back to scripture.

1 John 2:9“Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness.”

I would call you to pray for Bill Nye, and to ask God to soften his heart.  May Bill be open to truth of scripture, and to the light.  I would ask you to pray for those in his entourage that they would be open to the gospel.  If one person hears this debate and accepts Christ as Savior…then it is worth all of this.  Also as the verse warns us, pray for Christians to show love and see this as an opportunity to share Jesus with others.

Third, do you plan on watching?  AiG has offered to stream the debate live.  They have set an entire site up for this.  Our church has decided to open our doors and show the debate on our screens.  I would encourage you that this is an opportunity to learn and observe how the world attacks our fundamentals.  To see how much we are now living in a world of Gentiles.  1 Corinthians 1:23 “but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles”

May we as Christians come from this more/better prepared to share the gospel with a lost and dying world. But more importantly may someone hear the gospel and except Christ as Savior.
